New paintings are now on display at Burien Press. Come enjoy the music, beer, and conversation at the Burien Art Walk this Thursday, April 3rd. I'll be there personally from 6pm to 9pm to chat and answer any questions. I'd love to see you there.

Ordinarily, many painters tend to prefer an asymmetrical composition. And rightly so, as it creates more visual interest, less redundancy, and there's something intuitively pleasing to the eye about a little bit of lop-sidedness. That being said, there are many examples of symmetrical masterpieces in ourFrankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076428698475859171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830541930704709222.post-68700840276490034452014-01-16T23:49:00.002-08:002014-01-27T21:56:16.831-08:00"Duel": ProcessHere's another set of photos of another painting process I posted a couple of years back. New demonstrations to come shortly!

But, by popular demand, I've decided to re-post the photos here so that you can get a general sense of how I prefer to approach portrait paintings. Each painting is unique both in style and process so I can't say this is indicative of how I do Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076428698475859171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830541930704709222.post-40449757575769132672013-10-20T01:12:00.004-07:002013-10-26T16:10:14.778-07:00Studio Update
I've temporarily relocated the studio to the garage which is less than ideal but the great benefit of it is the tall ceiling. I'm now able to work on the bigger pieces I've been meaning to, and I've got more space in which to set up everything I need to work. In the long term, I'll have something a bit more permanent Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076428698475859171noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830541930704709222.post-49296890038468039082013-03-03T22:16:00.001-08:002014-01-27T21:55:59.578-08:00"Heaven & Earth": Process NotesNow that my work's on public display, I thought I'd take this opportunity to talk a bit about my process. Here's the gist of it.
First, I get an idea. I get ideas all the time, actually, far more than I can ever implement, which is a good thing. Sometimes they pan out and sometimes they don't. Sometimes I think I'm onto something only to run into a dead end halfway Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076428698475859171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830541930704709222.post-65544784960741216352013-03-03T21:09:00.001-08:002013-03-03T21:09:34.147-08:00New Show at Cupcake RoyaleIf you happen to be in the Seattle area, please stop in to see my work at Cupcake Royale at the Alaska Junction in West Seattle. A selection of new and old pieces will be on display there for the next two months so check it out and let me know what you think! function of good art is that it speaks for itself. Somehow it communicates itself to some pre-verbal element of our nature. We see it and we know. The thought is that
art that seems nonsensical without explanatory statements is not art at all but
a rudimentary form of illustration, one that serves as a Frankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076428698475859171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2830541930704709222.post-53816421763051073102012-06-26T06:57:00.001-07:002012-06-26T06:57:59.158-07:00Hello everybody,
Yes, it's a new look and a new day for this blog. The web hosting company I had my website parked at went under and, unfortunately, the step-by-step demos I'd posted earlier have been lost. However, this has allowed me to revamp the site a bit, simplify a few things, and start over on my links page, which was becoming rather cumbersome. There will be more postsFrankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13076428698475859171noreply@blogger.com0
